Former Doctor Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges of Illegally Selling Painkillers for Cash
A former physician pleaded guilty on Friday to federal charges of illegally prescribing and distributing painkillers to undercover operatives who visited his Victorville medical office.
Wendell Street, 67, of Las Vegas, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of illegally prescribing oxycodone to patients without a legitimate purpose. A sentencing hearing date has been set on December 9 before U.S. District Judge George Wu. Street faces up to 40 years in federal prison.
According to court filings, Street prescribed 7,769 prescriptions for narcotics, including 437,000 doses of oxycodone, from November 1012 to November 2013. Street was charged in a 10-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in February 2018.
