LA Bank Teller Sentenced to Probation for Helping Stage a Robbery

June 15, 2019

Marlene Wickman was sentenced this week to probation for helping her boyfriend stage a robbery at a local bank in Torrance where she worked. U.S. District Judge Fernando M. Olguin ordered Wickman to pay $20,000 in restitution.

The Long Beach residence pleaded guilty last year to a single federal charge of conspiracy to commit bank theft. Wickman told the court that she was remorseful for her actions and will do everything to ensure she never enters the criminal justice system.

Prosecutor charged Wickman after her boyfriend provided a note demanding cash at the bank. Wickman handed over more than $52,000 where he then fled. Prosecutor stated that the amount taken was unusually high compared to other similar robberies. This detail drew suspicion for investigators to investigate Wickman as an involved conspirator.

An investigation yielded that Wickman was dating the suspect. Her boyfriend, pleaded guilty last month in Los Angeles federal court to conspiracy to commit bank theft and agreed to share in repaying the restitution amount. According to federal prosecutors, investigators recovered approximately $32,000 in stolen money.

Her boyfriend is scheduled to be sentenced October 24 before Judge Olguin.
