Orange County Immigration Lawyer Sentenced to 18 Months in Federal Prison

December 26, 2019

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that an immigration attorney based out of Laguna Beach was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for filing dozens of fraudulent visa petitions to immigration authorities and failed to report illicit monies to the Internal Revenue Service. U.S. District Judge Josephine L. Staton sentenced Mihae Park on Thursday following her guilty plea to two federal felonies back in May of this year.

An investigation revealed that Park submitted over 200 fictitious work visa petitions to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services containing false information. The petitions sought visas for foreign nationals based on fraudulent representations that they were accepted employment in highly skilled or executive positions at various businesses, when, in reality, the individuals were obtaining employment in low-level positions for which work visas were not available. Park also submitted false tax returns for the years 2009 through 2014 by failing to report a total earning of $763,418 for this period.

Staton ordered a hearing for March 6, 2020 to determine the full extent of restitution Park must repay the victims.
